The fees structure supports:
- Facilities, programs, and services that promote student involvement and that are complementary to, but not part of, instructional programs.
- Supports operating and capital expenses for services related to the physical and psychological health and well-being of students, social and cultural activities and programs.
- Services related to campus life and campus community, and educational and career support services.
These policies and procedures are applicable to all students who officially register for programs at Stellenbosch University SUN. The institute reserves the right to change fees without prior notice to the student. However, fee changes are subject to approval by the Governing Council.
Student Fees Online Payments
Card / EFT Payments:
Payment by or on behalf of the student is accepted and processed only against the student number provided by you and the payment made. Therefore, please ensure that you use the correct student number. The onus is on the person making payment to ensure that the correct student number is used and the Stellenbosch University is indemnified against any damages or loss that may occur.
Please note:After receiving notice that the card payment was successful, please check your bank statement first in order to confirm that payment was done successfully.
Only credit cards that are registered for “3D Secure” are acceptable for payment.
An amount of R100 is payable when applying for admission as a student.
This amount does not apply to the following groups of students:

Application fees are not refundable under any circumstances.

The amount payable by the end of February is equal to the table below and, where applicable, the compulsory first instalment of Residence Fees.

These amounts are not applicable to international students, with the exception of international students with valid permanent residency in South Africa and international students with refugee status – click here to be redirected to Stellenbosch University International’s website.
All international students, including Namibians, need to pay their study fees in full by date of registration. International students, making use of University’s residences have to pay at least R25 000 of the accommodation fees and at least R15 000 of the meal quota allowed for the year to be placed on the account (if placed in SU catering residence) by date of registration.
All outstanding amounts of a previous year have to be settled before a student will be allowed to register for a following year.

Please note that study-related additional costs, known as Module costs), calculated according to the amounts of 2022 with the annual increase, are included in the amounts listed below; departments may alter these based on academic need. Estimates for textbooks (enquire at the academic departments), membership dues for academic and registered societies (R20 – R5 671), PSO fees for private students (R400), House fees for students in residences (R725) and parking fees are excluded.
