DUT Undergraduate Application Requirements 2023/2024

The following requirements apply to all students who are interested in pursuing a program at the Durban University of Technology DUT. Depending upon what type of applicant you are, you may also have to meet additional requirements. The minimum requirements for Durban University of Technology DUT admission are outlined below:


For Higher Certificate:
A National Certificate (Vocational) Level 4 with at least 50% in English.

For Diploma:
A National Certificate (Vocational) Level 4 with the following minimum requirements:
1. At least 50% in three fundamental subjects including, English; and
2. At least 60% in three compulsory vocational

For Bachelor’s Degree:
A National Certificate (Vocational) Level 4 with the following minimum requirements:
At least 60% in three fundamental subjects, including English; and
At least 70% in four compulsory vocational subjects, chosen from the National
Certificate (Vocational) Level 4

Over and above the minimum entrance requirements, each department also sets specific entrance requirements with which applicants needs to comply”.

Application Process – How to Apply?

The following steps will guide you to successfully go through your application process:


Apply online at the Central Applications Office (CAO).
1.  A prospective student who wishes to study at DUT must apply via the CAO by visiting their

2. Please complete the CAO application form online, and attach/upload certified copies of your identity
document and Final Grade 11 & Grade 12 certificate (June/ Trial report if you have not written your final

3. The application form must reach the CAO office before the closing date of 30 September 2021
for Higher Certificate, Diploma & Degree programs. Please refer to specific programs for relevant
closing dates, as some programs close earlier than the deadline.

4. Include the appropriate application fee of R250 (SA Citizen) / R300 (International applicants) when submitting your application form.

The 2023 Admission Closing date for Durban University of Technology DUT programs which include both undergraduate and postgraduate programs are scheduled as follows:


Registration continues to take place since its commencement on Monday, 16 January 2023 and has been extended until 17 February, Students are encouraged to register online and off-campus, for which you may use a tablet/handheld device or any other computer facility at your disposal. DUT will not be accepting walk-ins, since applications for admission for the 2023 academic year, closed last year (30 September 2022).
