What Is A NATED Qualification?
National Accredited Technical Education Diploma (NATED) Programs are delivered under the auspices of the Department of Higher Education and Training. The Programs consist of 18 months theoretical studies at colleges and 18 months relevant practical application in work places. Engineering studies range from N1-N6 while Business and Utility Studies range from N4-N6.
Is A NATED Qualification Right For Me?
This qualification is for students who are particularly interested and talented in an occupational/vocational area who want to develop competencies in the chosen area. This qualification develops the students’ technical and theoretical knowledge, and the workplace knowledge and skills required in their chosen occupational/vocational area. It will enable them either to study further or to be employed and productive in the sector at entry level and/or second tier level. The design of the qualification is such that it enables learners to progressively obtain the qualification by completing the related N4, N5 and N6 courses in a particular vocational/ occupational area, either separately with breaks between, or in one extended study period of a year or 18 months. This theoretical part of the program must be followed by a minimum of 18 months’ practical application of knowledge in a workplace for the student to be awarded the National N Diploma, Level 6.
How To Apply
Application for Nated Diploma Programs is done a year ahead of the intended year of study for Semester 1. Semester 2 applications open in April/May and classes commence in July after the semester break.
Minimum Entry Requirements
Students intending to pursue any one of the Nated Diploma Programs need to be in possession of a Grade 12 Certificate or be currently be in grade 12 during the year of application. Minimum entry requirements are as follows.

School Of Engineering

Nated Programs consist of theoretical and Practical component. The student undergo 3 levels of the theoretical component for a period of 18 months, namely N4, N5 and N6. Upon Completion of each of these levels the student will receive a certificate. Each of the levels takes 6 months to complete. Students will only be issued a National Diploma Certificate on completion of both Theoretical and Practical Components. The Practical Component requires students to go for Work Based Experience. Students are expected to go to the workplace for practical shadowing officials/ practitioners within their field of study. The students need to complete 18 months in the workplace. A workbook will be issued out to students going for Work Based Experience and the workbook must be completed and signed by both the student and their allocated supervisor every week.
